I have previously reviewed Cinder by Marissa Meyer as it was our book club’s Book of the Month for June 2012. I enjoyed it so much that I look forward to getting my hands on Scarlet, Book 2 of the Lunar Chronicles. While I wait for February 2013 to come along, I was surprised to get an e-mail from someone at Macmillan Audio sharing an audiobook sample of Cinder. I’m flattered by the gesture and I would really like to help spread word about this series. However, truth be told, one of my personal challenges as a bookworm is finishing an audiobook. I’ve tried listening to some audiobooks before and I’m genuinely impressed by the amount of work that goes into it but my audio player was often my biggest obstacle that I hardly ever finish. However, with technology nowadays, it makes it easier to complete one and I’m definitely putting Cinder on my soon-to-listen audiobook list.
If I were to describe my experience listening to the sample above, it was light yet entertaining. Rebecca Soler, a film and voiceover actress who won a 2009 AudioFile Earphones Award for her narration of After by Amy Efaw, did a wonderful job is voicing out the characters created by Marissa Meyer. I liked how she effortlessly differentiated Cinder, Iko and Prince Kai that I found myself searching for my copy of the book if only to read the chapter while I listened. I found myself smiling especially during that bit where Iko was stunned by the presence of Prince Kai in Cinder’s shop in New Beijing. In the sample, it was clear that Rebecca Soler was able to capture the tone of the book and it doesn’t surprise me to learn that she will also narrate Scarlet. Her narration also made me interested to check our her other audiobooks for fiction written by Judy Blume, Sarah Dessen and James Patterson.
For those who’d like to hear more, the audiobook CD (unabridged version) of Cinder by Marissa Meyer is available at Amazon.com for USD 30.39 or if you’re an Audible.com member, you can buy it for USD 9.95 or it may be even FREE with their 30-day free trial membership.
