I have first heard about Mina V. Esguerra and her books through Chachic’s Book Nook and during last year’s Filipino Reader Conference, wherein I remember her speaking during the Q&A portion of the book blogging panel, acknowledging the contribution of bloggers to the sales of her books. The more I asked around, the more I was in awe of her publishing journey. It didn’t hurt that the kind of books she wrote were those I like to read. Since then, I’ve been looking forward to her works. So far, I have purchased and read eBooks of Fairy Tale Fail and Interim Goddess of Love via Amazon; next up on my list would be getting copies of My Imaginary Ex, No Strings Attached and Love Your Frenemies.

What I enjoy the most about Mina’s books is that they’re quick and fun as well as witty and heartwarming. Thus, you can imagine why I would grab this chance of joining her latest contest/giveaway of her latest work, That Kind of Guy, which will hit your friendly neighborhood bookstores this April. Here’s a first look of its cover and a brief synopsis courtesy of Summit Books:

Good girl Julie never expected her hot former-player boyfriend to propose marriage. But when he did, she turned him down for reasons even she couldn’t figure out. Will she settle for a nice, safe guy instead? Or will she let him find his way back into her carefully guarded heart?

Wow, isn’t that exciting? I cannot wait to grab a copy. I’ll probably lump this with the rest of her books I have yet to buy. πŸ™‚

For the meantime though, those subscribed to Mina’s mailing list get a head start on her book giveway, wherein she challenges her readers to post something about the topic, My Kind of Guy… Gulp! Uh… Err… Well… Here goes my entry… *fingers crossed* πŸ˜‰

To describe My Kind of Guy, I’ll probably lump all the best character and personality traits of all my guy friends if that were ever possible. I am fortunate to have them in my life: they’re funny, witty, open and caring. Β They know how and when to treat me like a lady and like a guy. They can be pretty protective yet can set me straight whenever I need a wake-up call. I have yet to find that one guy in my life (not that I’m looking) but I bet he would probably need to pass my guy friends’ screening test (and even my girl friends’ too). So be warned. πŸ˜›

Whew! That was nerve-wracking. Hahaha. Best of luck to all those of joined Mina’s giveaway. Β And if you weren’t able to join the giveaway (awww!) but you’re a fan (yay!), don’t forget to pick up a copy of That Kind of Guy as soon as it hits the shelves of a bookstore near you.

  1. Hey, I had no idea you found out about Mina’s books through me. πŸ™‚ Glad you’re now a fan as well. I wanted to join her contest as well but I’m not sure if I can squeeze in a post about it tonight.

    • C’mon, squeeze a post. You can do it! πŸ˜€

And yes, I found out about Mina through you. I think it was after the Scholastic dinner. I casually browsed through your site for book recommendations and remembered making a note about Mina. I didn’t act on it immediately since I was transitioning between jobs then. πŸ™‚

  2. I almost didn’t write a post yesterday, but I’m glad I did! πŸ˜€ And welcome to the Mina fans club. πŸ™‚
